Animal Farm was performed in the Arts Theatre, Egglescliffe School, in September 2000. It was completely produced in a single week. The production used the text of the National Theatre version of the early 80's, and included many of the songs from that show, again learned by the cast in less than a week. Reproduced here are the notes from the original programme.

Director’s Notes

I am very proud to be involved with this production. As Director of the Arts College., it is wonderful to see students from between the ages 12 and 21 working together so well, and to see young people from all across the Stockton area benefiting from the opportunity to create theatre. As Director of the Youth Theatre, it is with great pleasure that I can bring together students with such a wide variety of experience, some about to begin Drama degrees, many others venturing onto stage for the very first time.

Cast 1This production has been entirely put together in eight days. Casting was completed on the first Saturday and during the week we rehearsed, built the set, designed and made the costumes and masks, rigged the lights, learned the songs etc. etc. I consider this a tremendous achievement by this talented ensemble of students and hope you will enjoy their efforts.

Cast 2Animal Farm is, as you will soon see, a complex and challenging play, requiring the actors to learn a whole new set of techniques both vocal and physical. The experience will stand them in good stead whatever they choose to do next in performance and, I trust, will be interesting and entertaining to watch.

Thanks, as always, for your support, which is greatly appreciated.
